I’ve noticed in the comments section of our blog lately that people have found out that they have won, but aren’t really sure what to do next. Hopefully this blog will clear up some of this confusion. If you still have questions, be sure to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
After you have been selected in the green card lottery you will receive a packet of documents that describe what to do in detail. This is why it is so important to keep your address information current with the government because otherwise you might not get this information!
The packet will also contain the forms that you must fill out and send back to the proper government office. Instructions on the proper completion of these forms will come in a blog post next week.
If you qualify and a visa is available you will receive a letter with the information that you need in order to go to your interview. During the interview the consular officer will decide whether or not you are fit to be granted a visa.
If you are granted a visa you should enter the United States before the expiration date. Once the Customs and Border Protection personnel admit you to America you become a permanent legal resident of the United States! Hooray!
