The Green Card Lottery will remain open until 12 pm (Eastern Standard Time) on November 2, 2013, a Saturday.
The registration period for the Green Card Lottery is only open for about one month of the year. During this period of time, all applications for the lottery will be accepted. Late applications will not be accepted by the U.S. State Department.
This year’s Green Card Lottery, DV 2015 (named after the year in which the green cards will be distributed to winners), began on October 1.
Applicants are encouraged to take their time when assembling their applications as they will only have one chance to submit their applications to the State Department.
At the completion of a registration, applicants will receive a confirmation number. This is a very important step of the process as applicants will need this number to check if they have won the first round of the lottery or not.
The State Department will announce the winners of the lottery on May 1, 2014, but one will not be able to see the results without a confirmation number.
The DV 2015 may prove to be the last Green Card Lottery and because of that it is important that registrants put in a good amount of effort into producing an accurate and correct application.
The Green Card Lottery is one of the most convenient immigration programs available. There are only two requirements for entry into the initial registration:
- Eligible country-of-origin. Only people from certain countries are allowed to apply for the Green Card Lottery.
- Education or work experience. Applicants must have a secondary school degree or two years of experience in a job that took two years to train for.
